Description:
The performance of 11 individual ports in Gujarat has been analyzed as a first step in the process of changing the organisation of and employment in the ports.
Performance indicators have been developed for cargo handling efficiency, port cost and revenues and labour. Based on these indicators a distinction could be made between different classes of ports and for each class of ports performance targets were formulated.
Based on a sensitivity analysis of a number of different restructuring scenarios recommendations were made about the structure, the services and the employment of the Gujarat maritime Board.
